Initial review, by way of background: This is Pico Syrah, CA, 2007, finished at 12.5% alcohol. It is an offering from the Wine Insiders service, and is a California Wine Club Selection.

Original review, March, 2011:

In the glass: Deep magenta, opaque about an inch in from the edge.

On the nose: Poured cool with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, shows modest deep fruit, somewhat simple, but with balanced sugar and spice. From the aroma, seems likely to be simple, fun but not necessarily distinctive.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are fairly consistent with the aroma.  Shows a light blackberry tone, with soft acids and tannins curling around the fruit.

In summary: Overall, rates two stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale with a plus for pleasantness.  Decent value at the bargain price.

Following long decant, a week kept cool in partially-filled bottle under vacuum:  No real differences to note with this type of storage.  Still fresh, light, easy and pleasant.

Updated review, over a year later,  June, 2012:  Still deep magenta in the glass.  Simple purple on the nose.  Remains light blackberry on the palate, now bringing a welcome touch of sandiness.
