By way of background:

Initial review : This is Spencer Family Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, California, 2010, finished at 12.5% alcohol.  This was vinted and bottled by Jenna, San Martin, California.  The "California" designation says the grapes may have been chosen from anywhere within the state of California.  This is part of the Wine Insiders line, and was acquired as part of a mixed case from Wine Insiders.

In the glass:  Clear with hints of yellow and vanilla.

On the nose: Poured cool with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, shows deep, creamy grasses and sliced melons on the nose.   From the aroma, seems like this will have both depth, layers and brightness.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact sweet and rich grass, almost butterscotch in feel, though not in flavors.  The sweet flavors are more restrained, think honeydew melon, with emphasis on the honey.   It is the mouthfeel that is reminiscent of butterscotch.  Sweet finish that nonetheless manages to last for quite awhile, turning crisper at the end, and vanishing cleanly.  A clean, soft take on sauvignon blanc, still with some verve and brightness.

In summary: Overall, just touches four stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, as I do believe I would stick with it as my white wine for an evening.  Best value at a near-bargain price.

Following long decant, six hours in wine glass at room temperature: The nose has retained its melon and citrus elements, perhaps now grown somewhat more muted.  The palate, however, has grown simpler and a bit disconnected, without the pleasant mouthfeel that emerged fresh from the bottle.  At the slightly warmer temperature, too, more alcohol comes forward.  Still, however, the balance of acids and sugars are pleasant.
