Spirit of Wine Review & Rating: ***+ $$ Zorzal Malbec Rose, Mendoza, Argentina, 2009 (GOOD VALUE)

By way of background:

Initial review : This is Zorzal Malbec Rose, Mendoza, Argentina, 2009.  This rose is not imported currently into the United States, but you may find some spotty availability.

In the glass: A brilliant, almost ruby-strawberry red.  Much deeper than typical rose wines.

On the nose: Poured cool with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, shows medium strawberry on the nose.  From the aroma, seems like this will be run and lightly sweet.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact a sleek, sweet and aromatic strawberry.  The sweetness is fairly apparent, so stay away if you are looking for tart, crisp rose style.  This is a sipper that will work well as an aperitif.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, with a plus for its fun element.  Good value if you can find it.
