Spirit of Wine Review & Rating: ***+ $ Gato Cabernet Sauvignon, Valle Central, Chile, 2009 (BEST VALUE)

Find prices and retail availability for bargain Valle Central Chile cabernet sauvignon.

By way of background: Chile generates some stunning cabernet sauvignon wines these days.  This bargain-priced version is from the Valle Central area.  I gave three stars to an earlier vintage.

Initial review : This is Gato Cabernet Sauvignon, Valle Central, Chile, 2009.

In the glass: Dark blood red purple.

On the nose: Poured cool with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, shows sweet, slick ink and sweet. dark cocoa.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact balanced flavors on the mid-palate, showing dark and very ripe blackberry fruit.  The mid-palate is smooth in texture, with light tannins and acids.  The finish is brief, but clean.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, with a plus for concentration.  A definite best value.
