By way of background, opening thoughts: Here we're trying a rose from Napa Valley red grapes.  Recall that roses are typically fermented from red grapes which have been pressed much earlier in the fermentation process than they would have been if dry red wines were to have been the intended outcome.

Original tasting and review : This is Blackbird Vineyards Arriviste Rose Wine, Napa Valley, CA, 2010, finished at 13.5% alcohol.  It is a blend of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and merlot grapes - in effect, a Bordeaux blend finished as a rose.

In the glass: The color is a salmon pink.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature from a 50ml tasting bottle and swirled vigorously, shows sweet and bright/fruity light pears and lemon.  From the aroma, seems like this will be bright and tangy.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact much rounder and sleeker in the mid-palate than I expected, bringing a glycerine-laced combination of light strawberries and red berries to all areas of your mouth.  Finish is lengthy, sleek but still simple, bringing fruits and light acids to a remarkably clean end point, way in the distance from the point where you first sipped this rose.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, with a plus for clean and pleasant balance.   Good value.
