By way of background, opening thoughts: This wine was introduced as part of the Glass of Italy program.

Original tasting and review : This is Casal Di Pari Montecucco Rosso DOC, Italy, 2007, finished at 13.5% alcohol.  The wine is a blend of Sangiovese, Merlot, Syrah and Petit Verdot.

In the glass: Medium deep red.

On the nose: Poured cool with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, shows deep and oaky sweet fruit notes, with a hint of old world styling, some boldness.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact deep blackberry and detectable oak finishing.  Finishes smooth and deep.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale.
