Spirit of Wine Review & Rating: *** $ Crane Lake Cabernet Sauvignon, California, 2009 - BEST VALUE - PRACTICALLY FREE

By way of background, opening thoughts: I've like a couple of the other "practically free" Crane Lake varietal offerings from California, so here I will be "taking one for the team" again with the cabernet sauvignon.

Original tasting and review : This is Crane Lake Cabernet Sauvignon, California, 2009, finished at a shy 12.5% alcohol.

In the glass: Medium deep ruddy red.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature, shows sweet and savory currants - both red and black.  From the aroma, seems like this will be full, lightly bright, perhaps a touch sweet, and tasty.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact somewhat more flavorful on the palate than expected, with the anticipated light sweetness and fullness.   Does bring a touch of acid to the mouth-ringing fullness.  Tannins are implied but not apparent. On the palate, flavors stay in the currant category.

In summary: Overall, pleasing rich sipi, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale.  I'd enjoy it again.  And at its crazy low price, this is a best value.
