Spirit of Wine Review & Rating: **** $$$ La Follette Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast, CA, 2008

By way of background, opening thoughts: We've enjoyed quite a number of Sonoma Coast Pinot Noirs in past reviews, and will be exploring a well-regarded, moderately-priced one here.

Original tasting and review : This is La Follette Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast, CA, 2008, finished at a bold 14.6% alcohol.

In the glass: Medium ruddy red throughout.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature from a 50ml tasting bottle and swirled vigorously, shows organic, just slightly funky deep red berry aromas.  From the aroma, seems like this will be, fresh, round and interesting.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact balanced, aromatic and delivering a mouth full of layered red berries.  Acids are just lifting enough to bring the entire experience forward on the palate.  Soft, slowly fading finish, with sweet red berries held in nice check by the closing acidity that keeps things clean and juicy.

In summary: Overall, rates four stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale.  Excellent quality/price ratio in a moderate price-range pinot noir.  Following long decant, one day in partially filled bottle at room temperature:  Aromas and palate held very consistent with the additional air time.
