By way of background, opening thoughts:  Here we are sampling a 100% Napa-based sauvignon blanc with a label that celebrates the geese habitating the crush pad area for Cerruti Cellars.   Review sample provided by Balzac Communications & Marketing.

Original tasting and review : This is Tudal Family Winery Cerruti Cellars Honker Blanc Sauvignon, Napa, California, 2010, finished at 13.8% alcohol.

In the glass: Honker Blanc shows as quite clear with a light vanilla cast.

On the nose: Poured cool with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, shows solid grass aromas with some underlying sugar and body.  From the aroma, seems like this will be citrusy but full.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact a balanced mid-palate of classic sauvignon-style grass blended with a deeper body white - almost suggesting a chenin blanc blend.   Following the initial flavors, acids lift sweet citrus into your cheeks and allow them to settle slowly and cleanly.

In summary: Overall, solid new world rendition of purebred sauvignon blanc rates four stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, making this a best value.

Following long decant, full day kept cool in partially filled bottle:  On the nose, nicer integration of citrus, grass and layers.  Very consistent palate.
