By way of background, opening thoughts: Petite Sirah is a lesser known classic grape varietal.  This one hails from Napa Valley, California, from negociant Cameron Hughes, who typically seeks to source higher-value wines at various price points.

Original tasting and review, November, 2011: This is Cameron Hughes Lot 229 Petite Sirah, Napa Valley, California, 2009, finished at 14.5% alcohol.

In the glass: Lot 229 Petite Sirah is jet black opaque in the glass, with an eighth of an inch halo of brilliant purple right at the rim of the glass.

On the nose: Poured cool with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, shows soft, thick oak and subtle dark fruit.  From the aroma, seems like this will be heavy, perhaps even ponderous, but layered.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact sleek, deep, extract of blackberry, that curls up in your cheeks on layers of fine tannins and underlying oak.  The finish is straightforward, lengthy and surprisingly clean for such a flavorful monster.

In summary: Overall, rates four stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, creating a best value opportunity.

Following long decant, two days kept cool in partially filled bottle:    Nose has grown a bit more muted, but the palate has interwoven quite nicely, generating a surprisingly lithe overall feel. And even longer decant, three more days in partially-filled bottle, five days total:  Nose shows soft and deep fruit.  Still full and integrated on the palate.  Methuselah.
--------------

Updated review, over a year later, March, 2013: Consistent color and aroma.  Simple, deep, pure purple blackberry and deep blueberry on the palate.  Still very strong.
