By way of background, opening thoughts:  The Carneros region of California, straddling Sonoma and Napa, is a large source of pinot noir.  Here is a widely recognized label.

Original tasting and review : This is Gloria Ferrer Pinot Noir, Carneros, Sonoma, California, 2007, finished at 13.9% alcohol.  A slightly earlier review of this wine is here.

In the glass: Medium light ruby red.

On the nose: Poured cool and swirled vigorously, shows light, sweet red berries, raspberries and touches of oak.  From the aroma, seems like this will be fair and balanced, like Fox News.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact dark toned in style, bringing dry blackberry along with dessicated brown leaves to a definite core of rugged, slightly old-world fruit.   Clean finish, bringing dry cherries and some residual acids.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, with a plus for the deep, pungent style. Good value. We'll be enjoying it with today's Thanksgiving meal.

Following long decant, full day kept cool in partially filled bottle: Muddled fresh berries and a little oak on the nose.  Smokey, dry fruit and leaves on the palate.  Still solid.
