By way of background, opening thoughts: Pennington, New Jersey - not exactly the first place that would come to mind for cabernet sauvignon.  But this California-derived cabernet is indeed vinted and bottled at Hopewell Valley Vineyards in New Jersey, from grapes grown in California.

Original tasting and review , November, 2011: This is Hopewell Valley La Valle Cabernet Sauvignon, California, 2009, finished at 13.5% alcohol.

In the glass: La Valle shows as deep mahogany, opaque in the center of the glass.

On the nose: Poured cool with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, shows modest classic, purple fruit with some oak.  From the aroma, seems like this will be balanced and lively.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact full bodied, with juicy deep fruit and surrounding tannins and acids sufficient to give it depth and life.  It is a soft wine, fundamentally, but with some layers and distinction.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, making it a best value at its attractive price point.

Following long decant, full day kept cool in partially filled bottle: Clean laundry elements coming through on the nose.  Remains soft, not overly so, and friendly.

Updated review, over a year later, March, 2013:  Consistent color and purple aromatics.  Consistent on the palate, too, showing soft but lively deep red fruit, gentle yielding finish.  Held up quite well to the additional year in bottle.  No reason to hold any longer.
