By way of background, opening thoughts: Negociant Cameron Hughes plucked this Stags Leap Cabernet Sauvignon from several high-end but unnamed vineyards in the region.  It sells at the higher end price range for Cameron Hughes wines, but still at an affordable level.

Inspired by this wine, August, 2015:  Pulling on jeans and flannels, ready for a brisk fall walk.

Original tasting and review, December, 2011: This is Cameron Hughes Lot 303 Cabernet Sauvignon, Stags Leap District, Napa Valley, Californima, 2009, finished at 14.5% alcohol.

In the glass: Deep ruddy magenta, opaque from within about a half inch of the edge of the glass.

On the nose: Poured cool with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, shows classic, subtle and structured Napa cabernet sauvignon, with fruit, oak and depth.  From the aroma, seems like this will be serious, layered an perhaps brooding.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact solid and bright fruit on the mid-palate, think ripe blackberry, with surrounding tannins and oak.  A clean, yet lengthy, finish then follows, with clear evidence that time will not harm this solid offering.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, with a plus for balance.

Following long decant, full day kept cool in partially filled bottle:  The nose is entirely consistent, classic and subtle.  Intensifying flavors of deep blueberry with hints of menthol and oak step this offering up enough to just touch four stars with the long decant time.
