By way of background, opening thoughts: Today we are sampling a Tuscany-based sangiovese blend, now six years from vintage date.

Original tasting and review, six years from vintage date , February, 2012: This is Jacopo Biondi Santi Sassoalloro, Toscana (Tuscany), Italy, 2006  finished at 13.5% alcohol.

In the glass: Dark magenta, with brick highlights at the edge.

On the nose: Poured cool with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, shows full, classic, deeply oaked fruit.  From the aroma, seems like this will be solid, perhaps austere, and fully structured with dark fruit.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact fruitier than expected on the palate, showing bright, just-ripe blackberries.  A distinct acid wash follows rapidly, making this more ready to accompany food than to enjoy on its own.  Young wood shavings support the structure and yield to a crisp, clean finish.

In summary: Overall, still young with significant structure, just touches three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale.

Following long decant, full day kept cool in partially filled bottle: Aroma veers purple and bright.  Still quite crisp and bright on the palate.

Updated tasting and review, almost three years later, now nine years from vintage date , January, 2015:  Bright burgundy and magenta.  Bright red oaked fruit on the nose.  Fresh red currants and blackberries on the palate - this is still a young wine at heart!  Fresh, clean acids and whisper-clean finish.  Retains a solid three star rating.
