By way of background, opening thoughts: A Chianti Classico at a value price point is not a typical find.  We've got one today, with several years of age.

Original tasting and review : This is Tenuta di Arceno Chianti Classico, Tuscany,  Italy, 2005, finished at 13.% alcohol.

In the glass:  Dark, brick red, opaque from about an inch in from the edge of the glass.

On the nose: Poured cool with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, shows a definite funk, which will blow off with additional air time.  Behind that, there are subtle, deep blackberry aromas.   From the aroma, seems like this will be full and still edgy.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact a balanced and clean attack on the mid-palate, showing clean acids, some tannins and modest deep fruit.  Finish is bright with some black raspberry.

In summary: Overall, rates two stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, with a plus for a clean mid-red balance. A wine that craves food.

Following long decant, full week kept cool in partially filled bottle:  Clean nose now, deep and broadly aromatic, layered fruit.   Round, easy and bright on the palate.  Simple blackberry with a touch of dry prunes.  Held up well to air, which suggests well for age.
