By way of background, opening thoughts: It will be no secret to regular readers of "jorray" reviews that I am a fan of Columbia Valley, Washington, cabernet sauvignons.  Here's one from that ubiquitous producer, Chateau Ste. Michelle, from selected vineyards in the northern area of Columbia Valley.

Original tasting and review , March, 2012: This is Chateau Ste. Michelle Indian Wells Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley, WA, 2009, finished at 14.5% alcohol.

In the glass: Dark, blood red magenta, opaque from about a half inch in, with glints of dark purple at the edge.

On the nose: Poured cool with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, shows soft and lush, furry fruit.  From the aroma, seems like this will be sweet, dense and rich.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact much as anticipated, perhaps more perfumed and aromatic than expected.  Lush fruit, soft, fresh and dense, but with enough backbone to stand erect, bringing deep violet tones to all corners of your mouth.  Very gentle tannins glide the flavors to an exceptionally long, clean finish.

In summary: Overall, rates four stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale.  Seems ready to drink now, but with the big alcohol level and full extraction, you need not be in a hurry.  Great value.

Following long decant, full day kept cool in partially filled bottle: Remains soft, lush and red on the nose.  Fruity dense middle, almost primary fruit, suggesting it may want at least another year in bottle.  Following longer decant, two more days kept cool in partially filled bottle: Same nose.  Lean, luxurious and slightly aromatic nose.  Still a remarkably solid offering with three full days in air.

Updated review, over a year and a half later, now four years from vintage date, December, 2013:  EVERYTHING has remained consistent with the earlier notes: color, nose, lush, furry palate, finish... and the best value four star rating.
