By way of background, opening thoughts:  Today we're sampling a cabernet sauvignon from the North Coast region of California from the seven-year old Joseph Carr Winery.

Original tasting and review : This is Joseph Carr Josh Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon, North Coast, CA, 2009, finished at 14.1% alcohol.

In the glass: Deep magenta and brick, opaque from  about an inch from the edge.

On the nose: Poured cool and swirled vigorously, shows sweet, clean red fruit.  From the aroma, seems like this will be fruit-driven, perhaps simple, but friendly.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact a deeper, ruddier mid-palate than expected, with some purple ink and softly yielding tannins leaning into a red berry midtone.  Finish is fast, but juicy clean.

In summary: Overall, rates two stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, with a plus for a pleasant, becoming style.

Following long decant, three days kept cool in partially filled bottle:  Shy red berries on the nose.  A soft, juicy mid-palate has grown a bit of backbone as well, sleek, sturdy with clean fruit.  Fresh, red berry finish and a slight clasp of tannins.  Reaches three stars.
