By way of background, opening thoughts: Here is a Chilean pinot noir, available at very much a value-price for a pinot.  I did a quickie review of this wine here awhile back, but today we get to settle in with it a bit more.

Original tasting and review , March, 2012: This is Montes Pinot Noir Limited Selection, Casablanca Valley, Chile, 2009, finished at 14% alcohol.

In the glass: Bright, medium ruby red.

On the nose: Poured cool with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, shows bold, fat blousy pinot aromas.  From the aroma, seems like this will be sweet and perfumed.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact big, round and lightly sweet with red fruit on the palate, bringing a noticeable sheen of light pepper. Finishes modestly long, with a light acidic up-tick.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, close but not quite at the earlier rating level.  Nonetheless, at the bargain acquisition price, this is a best value.

Following long decant, full day kept cool in partially filled bottle: Deeper, funkier, pruner on the nose.  Still big and fat.  Very consistent palate, still poised between round and pepper.

Updated review, a year and a half later, now four years from vintage date, October, 2013:  Light red and orange.  Softer, sweet, pinot noir nose.  Lithe red fruit on the palate, showing a distinct touch of oak now, which has replaced the pepper.  Clean, bright finish.  Still a solid three stars, showing no senility whatsoever.
