By way of background, opening thoughts: Russian River Valley in Sonoma County is well-known for its pinot noirs.  Today we are sampling a high-end, well-regarded pinot from the region.

Original tasting and review : This is Sequana Sundawg Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir, Green Valley of Russian River Valley, Sonoma, CA, 2008, finished at 14.6% alcohol.

In the glass: Light to medium red with ruby highlights.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, shows bright, sweet, slightly tangy and funky red cherry fruit. A tiny touch of iron ore.  From the aroma, seems like this will be light, bright and intriguing.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact bright yet solid in the mid-palate, showing dry red cherry and red raspberry.   Bright acids perk up into your cheeks, and the dry red berry finish lodges for a long, long stay - thirst-quenching in its brightness.

In summary: Overall, I'd definitely return to Sequana Sundawg Ridge again, generating three full stars on the Spirit of Wine scale.

Following long decant, full day kept cool in partially filled bottle:  Softer nose, shows light citrus oil and peppery deep red currant.  Ripe red currants and black pepper drive the palate too.  For pinot, robust and unique.  It gains a plus for those attributes.  I recommend the long decant.  More aging may accomplish the same.  And even longer decant, another full day kept cool in partially filled bottle: Nose even lighter now.  Very sweet, lingering and rich ripe red berries on the palate now.  Jumps to four stars.  Awesome with two days of cool air!
