By way of background, opening thoughts: Mendocino is an appellation in northern California that is producing some noteworthy classical varietals.  Today we will be sampling certified organic wines from the Girasole Vineyards in Mendocino.  Review samples were provided by the winery's agent.

Original tasting and review : This is Girasole Vineyards Chardonnay, Mendocino, California, 2010, finished at 13.5% alcohol.

In the glass: Clear, light yellow plus vanilla.

On the nose: Poured cool with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, shows bright pear fruit, with a hint of melted butter.   From the aroma, seems like this will be smooth with a bit of tanginess.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact smoother and sleeker than anticipated.  Shows a soft sweetness and solid minerality, with acids and fruit taking supporting roles.  The sweetness clears in a lingering finish, ending up completely clean with no sugar cloy.

In summary: Overall, rates four stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, making this a best value selection.

Following long decant, full day kept cool in partially filled bottle:  Soft poached pear on the nose.  Remains very sleek on the palate, holding up nicely to the air time.
