Original tasting and review : This is John Duval Entity Shiraz, Barossa, Australia, 2006.  I gave the 2005 vintage, reviewed here, a whopping five stars.  For the 2006, not only have I cellared it for six years since vintage date, but I have also decanted it a full day in a flat bottomed decanter before this tasting.

In the glass: Black blood red, opaque from about an eighth of an inch from the edge.

On the nose: Poured following the long decant and swirled vigorously, shows soft, bold, deep, alcoholic blackberry.  From the aroma, seems like this will be bold, perhaps showing some age.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact full, deep, lush, yet balanced big black fruit - a combination of thick blackberry with some minor top notes of red currant just peeking through.  Lingers on the palate, with solid alcohol, for an exceptionally long time, before crawling up into your cheeks and slowing fading.  Somewhat more finesse and balance than many southeastern Australian shiraz.

In summary: Overall, rates an admirable three stars with a plus for intense balance on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale. Solid score, but not quite to the levels of the 2005.
