By way of background, opening thoughts: Here we have a classic California cabernet sauvignon from Sonoma, cellared until it has arrived a full decade from vintage date.  This is Clos du Bois Cabernet Sauvignon, Sonoma, CA, 2002, finished at 13.8% alcohol.

Inspired by this wine, August, 2015:  Donning a thick maroon fleece pullover let's go launch a kite!

Original tasting and review, August, 2012:

In the glass: Deep ruby red with a hint of orange breaking through the violet at the edge.

On the nose: Poured cool with a brief decant and swirled vigorously, shows clean, fresh-laundry red fruit, with a slight overtone of ok funk.  Odd to have the funk and clean laundry together.  From the aroma, seems like this will be still fruity, perhaps a bit tired though.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact full and well-balanced on the palate.  Just enough tannins still remaining for you to know this is cabernet sauvignon.  But it holds together as an easy-going sip, combining fruit and oak with a little lift from the tannins.  Clean finish gives off further fruit in your cheeks.  This bottle has picked up the tiniest bit of cork taint over its 10 years, but not enough to mask the characteristics.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale.  Good sign that this bottle has held up so well for a decade.
