Review: *** $ Black Box Cabernet Sauvignon, Valle Central, Chile, 2012 = BEST VALUE

Check out today's pricing and retail availability for Black Box Cabernet Sauvignon.

By way of background, opening thoughts: Box wines have a bit of a dicey reputation.  But, conceptually, the notion of oxygen-deprived packages for wines that are designed for young consumption is not an entirely invalid notion.

Today we are sampling Black Box Cabernet Sauvignon, Valle Central, Chile, 2012, finished at a relatively light 13% alcohol.

Thick deep red in the glass. Not opaque.

Aromas are a bit charry, deep and full bodied. Hints of cigar and spices.  Seems like it will be friendly and full.

On the palate, much as anticipated. Deep, fresh, full with some blackened oak and clean fresh friendly fruit. Cherries and boysenberries primarily.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, which is a best value at this "practically free" price point.
