Review: ***+ $ Trader Joe's Charles Shaw ("Two Buck Chuck") Chardonnay, California, 2011 - BEST VALUE

By way of background, opening thoughts: Charles Shaw is Trader Joe's ubiquitous "Two-Buck Chuck" brand; now generally retailing at $2.49.  Today we are sampling the chardonnay.

Original tasting and review : This is Trader Joe's Charles Shaw ("Two Buck Chuck") Chardonnay, California, 2011, finished at 12.5% alcohol.

In the glass: Medium, light yellow.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows light sweet lemon.  From the aroma, seems like this will be simple and friendly.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact creamier and sleeker than anticipated; quite tasty, full and pleasant.  Mineral finish rolls over the sweetness to bring a clean ending.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, with a big plus for friendliness.  Nearly touches four stars and is a crazy good value at this "practically free" price point.
