By way of background, opening thoughts: Vintage Press Cabernet Sauvignon was a recent best buy tasting. Today we are trying the chardonnay.
Original tasting and review : This is Vintage Press Chardonnay, Napa Valley, California, 2011, finished at 13.9% alcohol.
In the glass: Medium light yellow.
On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows soft, deep and integrated elements of ripe gooseberries with hints of butterscotch and lemon. From the aroma, seems like this will be perky and intriguing.
On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact much as anticipated. The gooseberry fruit is lightly sweet and somewhat rounded in the palate. There is a nice brightness to the edges and a sufficient heft to the middle to keep this mouth-filling. Clean and yet robust finish.
In summary: Overall, rates an easy three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, making this a strong best buy at the bargain price point.
