By way of background, opening thoughts:

Original tasting and review : This is Trader Joe's Reserve Syrah, Paso Robles, California, 2011, finished at 14.2% alcohol.

In the glass: Deep ruby magenta.

On the nose: Poured at cool room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows full, black oaky fruit.  From the aroma, seems like this will be boldly lush and dark.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact even deeper and lusher than anticipated. Black, bold, creamy blackberry and black violets.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, with a big plus for power and richness.  Best value.
