By way of background, opening thoughts: Ridge Crest is a line of value-priced second labels from Claar Cellars, a premium winemaker in Columbia Valley, Washington State.

Original tasting and review : This is Ridge Crest Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley, Washington, 2011, finished at 13.5% alcohol.

In the glass: Medium deep magenta.

On the nose: Poured at cool room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows deep, slightly funky fruit.  From the aroma, seems like this will be robust, rich and edgy.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact much as anticipated, with deep blackberry in a furry jacket. Deep, flush and potent finish.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars with a plus for robustness on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, making this a very good value.
