Review: *** $ Cline Zinfandel, California, 2011 = BEST VALUE

By way of background, opening thoughts:  The last time I reviewed a Cline Zinfandel, it was a 2005 vintage wine sampled in 2010.  Today we will sample a 2011 vintage much younger.

Original tasting and review : This is Cline Zinfandel, California, 2011, finished at 14% alcohol.

In the glass: Medium dusty dark red.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows fruity deep red, with some red cherry.  From the aroma, seems like this will be more like a fruity, generic merlot than a zinfandel.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact huskier and more deeply fruited with rich blackberry and oak than anticipated.  Furry brightness on the finish, which fades cleanly.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale and is a best value.
