Original tasting and review : This is La Merika Pinot Noir, Central Coast, California, 2010, finished at 14% alcohol.

In the glass: Deep red, almost goes opaque in the center.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows funky, deep plum with a hint of orange essence.  From the aroma, seems like this will be deep and eclectic.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact bold and inky purple, almost shiraz-like, showing deep aromatic blackberry with the sinewy mouthfeel of plums. Soft, bold and friendly fruit finish, that closes with a light robe of tannins.  Not your usual pinot noir experience, but a fun bold red ride.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, with a plus for its intensity, garnering a best value status.
