Review: *** $$ David Sampedro Vinos Sin Ley Traza Rioja Graciano, Spain, 2007

Check out today's pricing and retail availability for Traza Rioja.

By way of background, opening thoughts: Today we will  be sampling a Rioja-region wine made entirely of the graciano grape, a grape less widely recognized than others in the region.  This vintage scored 91 points from Jay Miller and was reported to be in a good drinking window through 2014.  We are sampling in late 2013.

Original tasting and review : This is David Sampedro Vinos Sin Ley Traza Rioja Graciano, Spain, 2007, finished at 13.5% alcohol.

In the glass: Light magenta turning opaque in the very center.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows funky and wildly bold old school aromas.  From the aroma, seems like this will be a combination of old and new world fruit.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact tangy, old world blackberry, fresh and with plenty of aromatic overtones, leaves and citrus.  Holds its six years of age very well.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale.
