Original tasting and review, October, 2013: This is Adeline Howell Mountain Merlot, Napa Valley, California, 2008, finished at 14.7% alcohol.
In the glass: Medium magenta.
On the nose: Poured at cool room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows robust, inky, purple elements. From the aroma, seems like this will be soft and layered with bold aromatics.
On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact full and dry inky, with purple robes and sleek finishes.
In summary: Overall, rates three stars with a plus for sophisticated styling on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale.
Updated review, a year and a half later, now seven years from vintage date, April, 2015: Still full, deep fruit aromatics. The palate brings dry robes of purple with solid grainy tannins. Same rating and a suggestion that this will hold well for years to come!
Inspired by this wine, September, 2015: Four erstwhile graduates contemplating their future. One lights a cigar.
