By way of background, opening thoughts: Trying a white today that has been cellared properly, but for too long.

Original tasting and review : This is Chateau de L'Aulee Tendre White Touraine Azay-le-Rideau, France, 2004, finished at 12% alcohol and sampled nine years from vintage date.

In the glass: Light honey / caramel.

On the nose: Poured at cool room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows light earth and fruit tones, hints of damp basement.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are dry, citrus butterscotch, bright finish.

In summary: Overall, rates two stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale.  We'll add a plus for enormous longevity for a bargain-priced white.
