Original tasting and review : This is Papapietro Perry Pinot Noir, Elsbree Vineyard, Russian River Valley, Sonoma County, California, 2007, finished at 14.5% alcohol.

In the glass: Medium deep brick red.

On the nose: Poured at cellar temperature and swirled vigorously, shows deep, brick-laden fruit with hints of funk.  From the aroma, seems like this will be well-aged and veined.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact layered with rich fruit and vibrant cherries.  Both aged and youthful at once.  A rounder mouthful than classic pinot noir, but showing all of the energy.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars with a plus for depth on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale.

With aeration and a short decant: becomes even creamier, with all of the verve and richness from earlier.  Touches four stars.
