Review: ***+ $$$ Sequana Pinot Noir, Santa Lucia Highlands, California, 2010

By way of background, opening thoughts: I really enjoyed a prior Sequana Pinot Noir from Russian River.  This one reflects the same winemaking team, working with grapes from the Santa Lucia Highlands.

Original tasting and review : This is Sequana Pinot Noir, Santa Lucia Highlands, California, 2010, finished at 14.1% alcohol.

In the glass: Medium ruby/magenta/brick.

On the nose: Poured at cool room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows dry strawberry and light red cherry.  From the aroma, seems like this will be bright and tangy.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact full featured with leafy dry strawberry and raspberry, but in a relatively round, creamy robe.  The background is soft and full, opening into a leisurely, clean finish.

In summary: Overall, rates an easy three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, with a plus for its friendly depth - above the quality you would hope for at Sequana's price point.  By the way, this is consistent for me with Santa Lucia Highlands pinot noirs - excellent quality for the price.
