Take One for the Team Review: Barefoot Cabernet Sauvignon, California, non-vintage = BEST VALUE

Original tasting and review : This is Barefoot Cabernet Sauvignon, California, non-vintage, finished at 13% alcohol.  It sells at a "practically free" price and is part of our "take one for the team"series.

In the glass: Deep plum magenta, opaque in the very center.

On the nose: Poured at cool temperature and swirled vigorously, shows red cabernet grapes.  From the aroma, seems like this will be very young and fruity.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact much rounder and full than anticipated, admittedly showing young cabernet grapey elements, but in a rich package.  Being an occasional small-batch winemaker, this wine comes the closest I have experienced to the aromas and flavors of cabernet sauvignon fresh juice.

In summary: Overall, rates an easy three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, with a plus for easy-going plushness, creating a definite best value.  This shows a kinship with Barefoot Zinfandel from Lodi, which has also proven in the past to be a best value.
