Take One for the Team Review: *** $ Sutter Home Merlot, California, non-vintage = BEST VALUE

Check out today's pricing and retail availability for Sutter Home Merlot.

By way of background, opening thoughts:

Original tasting and review : This is Sutter Home Merlot, California, non-vintage, finished at 13% alcohol.  It sells at a "practically free" price and is part of our "take one for the team"series.

In the glass: Deep ruby magenta.

On the nose: Poured at cool room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows beefy red fruit, with some blood and plums.  From the aroma, seems like this will be rich and perhaps even layered.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact soft, sandy blackberry, with just a hint of tannins and a perky finish that sits in your cheeks for a few moments.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, making this a best value.
