By way of background, opening thoughts: "Take one for the team" is our series of reviews for widely available, extremely inexpensive wines.  Sutter Home makes quite a range of these.

Original tasting and review : This is Sutter Home Cabernet Sauvignon, California, non-vintage, finished at 13% alcohol and sampled from a small, 187 ml bottle.

In the glass: Medium deep ruby with pink highlights at the edge.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows surprisingly deep, lightly oaked black currant juice.  From the aroma, seems like this will be easy going.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact quite aromatic and lightly acidic on the first sip, showing plenty of fresh plum fruit and red berries.  Generic but pleasant in style.  The finish is clean with a bright pick-up of acids in your cheeks.

In summary: Overall, rates two stars with a plus for friendliness on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale.  Good value, given its "practically free" price point.
