By way of background, opening thoughts:  Here is a classic Cameron Hughes play: mystery vineyards, top-notch location, value pricing.  The 00's lots from Hughes are typically top-tier choices.  This one looks to carry the elements: Oakville, Napa, origin and a winemaker not willing to reveal an identity.  Let's see what we've got.

Original tasting and review : This is Cameron Hughes Lot 500 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, California, 2011, finished at 13.9% alcohol.

In the glass: Black magenta, opaque a half inch in from the edge.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows classic and sleek and bold Napa black and red fruit.  From the aroma, seems like this will be taut, targeted and still showing a broad swath of fruit.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact a distinctive, dark, fruity element, fully wrapped in sophisticated sleekness.  The notes are of plums (if plums could be dressed black-tie) and dark chocolate.  Still shows some youth and willingness to settle into its skin.  But not so young to be in any way offensive.  The finish sits gently in your cheeks, but offers long hints of tannins and fruit.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars with a big plus on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale.
