By way of background, opening thoughts: Wente is the oldest continuously operating family-owned winery in America, now into its fifth generation of ownership.  Today we will be sampling a Livermore Valley Chardonnay from Wente, provided by representatives of the winery.

Original tasting and review : This is Wente Vineyards Morning Fog Chardonnay, Livermore Valley, California, 2012, finished at 13.5% alcohol and finished in neutral oak and stainless steel.

In the glass: Very light yellow with hints of olive.

On the nose: Poured at cool room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows soft, but still crispy tropical fruit.  From the aroma, seems like this will be sweet and easy going, with bright acids.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact sweet apple and crisp pear, with a soft, mouth-filling surround that brings in hints of vanilla and very light oak.  A gentle, creamy overlay that likely comes from the sur lie aging.

In summary: Overall, rates an easy three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale.
