Original tasting and review, May, 2014, eight years from vintage date: This is Selvapiana Chianti Rufina, Vendemmia, Italy, 2006, finished at 13.5% alcohol.

In the glass: Medium, deep dusty brick red.

On the nose: Poured at cellar temperature and swirled vigorously, shows mature, old world, vegetable-spiked fruit.  From the aroma, seems like this will be well-worn and perhaps lush.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact well-worn, as anticipated, but with a drier, more tannin-rich palate than expected from the somewhat fruitier nose.  This is gritty stuff, hunting mightily for some beef or cheese to tame it.  With cheese, it's ascetic edges soften a bit.

In summary: Overall, rates two stars with a big plus for its craggy character on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale.
