Original tasting and review : This is Villa Pillo Borgoforte, Toscana, Italy, 2006, finished at 14.5% alcohol.

In the glass: Deep, muddy dark red, opaque in the center.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows bold, funky deep red and black fruit.  From the aroma, seems like this will be thick and mature.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact contemplative and dark, deep with brooding fruit that has not turned over to full maturity - a 40-year-old still in adolescence.  But a 40-year-old with a serious side.  Dry dark plums are rimmed with abundant tannins.  Dry at first, the sip opens to a more generous fruit as it settles on your palate.

In summary: Overall, rates an easy three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale.
