Review: ***+ $$ Wellington Vineyards Zinfandel, Meeks Hilltop Ranch, Sonoma, California, 2009 = GOOD VALUE

Original tasting and review : This is Wellington Vineyards Zinfandel, Meeks Hilltop Ranch, Sonoma, California, 2009, finished at 14.9% alcohol.

In the glass: Medium deep dusty red.

On the nose: Poured at cellar temperature and swirled vigorously, shows soft yet robust plum fruit.  From the aroma, seems like this will be sweet and richly layered.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact solid with soft tannins and inviting fruit.  A creamy blend of ripe red cherries, ripe blackberry and rich red plums.  Fills your mouth with the round fruits, but crawls into your cheeks with friendly acids.  The acids fix the finish in your cheeks for a full minute.  Brings you back for another sip.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars with a big plus for presence on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, making this a good value at its price point.  I could see this mellowing into four stars and becoming a best value over time.
