By way of background, opening thoughts:  I've been enjoying Santa Lucia Highlands based pinot noirs in recent years.  Let's try another!

Original tasting and review : This is
Cloud Break Reserve Pinot Noir, Santa Lucia Highlands, California, 2011, finished at 13.5% alcohol and first sampled three years from vintage date, in July, 2014.

In the glass: Medium red-orange.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows bright red cherry and red raspberry.  From the aroma, seems like this will be brightly toned; can't tell if it will be sweet or austere.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact showing a nice balance of fullness in the palate, with moderately dry bold fruit, lightly toned with dark hints of charcoal.  Nice brightness emerges in the cheeks as part of the full, fleshy finish.

In summary: Overall, rates an easy three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, with a big plus for balance and pleasantness.  Good value.
