Review: ***+ $$ Flora Springs Merlot, Napa Valley, California, 2010 = GOOD VALUE

Original tasting and review : This is Flora Springs Merlot, Napa Valley, California, 2010, finished at 14.5% alcohol, and first sampled in July, 2014, four years from vintage date.

In the glass: Deep magenta, opaque within an inch of the edge.

On the nose: Poured at cellar temperature and swirled vigorously, shows soft, fragrant, furry, deep fruit.  From the aroma, seems like this will be rich and layered.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact bringing a deep fruit, ripe blackberry, first, with heavy but soft tannins following immediately along.  The finish opens up behind the tannins, and settles in with a leisurely drift towards a clean close.  Almost an old-school California merlot experience.

In summary: Overall, hefty yet balanced experience rates three stars with a plus for its classiness on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale.  Good value.
