By way of background, opening thoughts: I enjoyed this wine in the 2002 vintage a great deal.  Today, we'll sample a vintage from 10 years later, and sampled much younger.

Original tasting and review : This is Rancho Zabaco Sonoma Heritage Vines Zinfandel, Sonoma County, California, 2012, finished at 15.3% alcohol and sampled two years from vintage date, in July, 2014.

In the glass: Deep magenta, opaque from about three-quarter inch in.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows deep, young, black purple inky fruit.  From the aroma, seems like this will be tangy, bold and big.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact full, rich and layered purple in the mouth.   The full black plum and ripe blackberry fruit brings more apparent sweetness than acids or tannins.  It broadens out, though, with a full spectrum of acid helping the layer out the finish.  Befitting the bold style, clings to your tongue for quite awhile before fading to the wisp of a finish.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars with a plus for power and potency on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale.  Good value.
