Review: ***+ $ St Marys Bells & Whistles, Limestone Coast, Australia, 2005 = BEST VALUE

Original tasting and review : This is St Marys Bells & Whistles, Limestone Coast, Australia, 2005, finished at 15% alcohol.  This is a blend of 65% cabernet sauvignon, 20% shiraz, 11% cabernet franc and 4% merlot.  It was first sampled at nine years from vintage date, in July, 2014.

In the glass: Deep muddy red with some brick at the edge. Opaque in the center.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows a funky, bold, red sensibility.  From the aroma, seems like this will be bold and nose-filling.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact softer and gentler on the palate than anticipated.  Solid and fleshy with good fruit remaining.  Some nice brett and old world character among the fleshiness.

In summary: Overall, three stars with a plus on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, making this an easy best value.
