Review: ***+ $ Boxhead Cabernet Sauvignon, South Australia, 2008 = BEST VALUE

Check out today's pricing and retail availability for Boxhead Cabernet Sauvignon.

By way of background, opening thoughts: I really enjoyed the 2008 Boxhead Shiraz from Australia and today I am sampling a cabernet sauvignon from the same winery and same vintage.

Original tasting and review : This is Boxhead Cabernet Sauvignon, South Australia, 2008, finished at 14% alcohol and first sampled six years from vintage date, in September, 2014.

In the glass: Deep ruby magenta, opaque from a half inch in.

On the nose: Poured at cellar temperature and swirled vigorously, shows deep fruit with some eucalyptus tang.  From the aroma, seems like this will be fresh and deep.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact showing nice sinewy pine and eucalyptus blackberry.  The sip is bold, fruit and refreshing, with a lingering finish that seem to keep spitting out little blossoms of red and black fruit into your cheeks.

In summary: Overall, rates three stars with a plus for compelling depth and friendliness on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, making this a best value at its bargain price point.  I'd love to try a blend with the shiraz.
