By way of background, opening thoughts: I enjoyed an earlier vintage of Boxhead, and am testing a later vintage today.

Original tasting and review : This is Boxhead Shiraz, Mclaren Vale, Australia, 2010, finished at 15% alcohol and first sampled four years from vintage date, in September, 2014.

In the glass: Deep black magenta, opaque from a half inch in from the edge.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows big, funky, toe-juice fruit.  From the aroma, seems like this will be layered and rich.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact bringing a rich, layered, yet vibrant blackberry and black currant fruit, with full mouth-feel and velvet texture.  Rich, soft, but not showing any age; all fresh depth.

In summary: Overall, rates four stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, making this a crazy best value at its price point.
