Original tasting and review : This is Mischa Estate Merlot, Wellington, South Africa, 2009, finished at 14% alcohol and first sampled five years from vintage date, in September, 2014.

In the glass: Deep muddy rusty red, opaque in the center.

On the nose: Poured at  room temperatu
re and swirled vigorously, shows clean and bright red berries.  From the aroma, seems like this will be sweet and fresh.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact sweet and fresh as anticipated, with curls of smoke to keep things interesting.  Colorful notes on the palate of licorice-tinted plums.  Finishes full, with modest length and clean.

In summary: Overall, rates an easy three stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale.  Best value for its very modest price point.
