Review: ***+ $$ Muirwood Cabernet Sauvignon, Arroyo Seco, California, 2012 = GOOD VALUE

By way of background, opening thoughts: I enjoyed the Muirwood chardonnay a great deal and today I will be sampling the cabernet sauvignon, at an equally attractive price point.

Original tasting and review : This is Muirwood Cabernet Sauvignon, Arroyo Seco, California, 2012, finished at 14.2% alcohol and first sampled two years from vintage date, in September, 2014.

In the glass: Muddy mid red.

On the nose: Poured at room temperature and swirled vigorously, shows fresh, bright red berries; think red cherries and red currants.  From the aroma, seems like this will be rich and layered with nice bright berry notes.

On the palate: The primary elements on the palate are in fact the rich, fresh and textured mouth feel - showing violets and plums - plus an overlay of soft and gentle tannins.  Flavors glide along for a good long time in the finish, coating your pallet with the soft purple flavors.  This offers a nice, clean, gentle slide to the ending.

In summary: Overall, rates three plus stars on the five-star Spirit of Wine scale, making this a very good value at its price point.
